Junior Programs at The Atlantic Club

The Atlantic Club Tennis Center is regarded as one of the best instructional tennis centers in the state, possessing & producing current and past New Jersey State Public singles and doubles champions as well as Players of the Year for the Asbury Park Press, Star Ledger and Coast Star newspapers. The participants in our Junior Programs range in the area of 400 per session. We have produced over 60 state, sectional or national champions as well as junior and adult players who have achieved a #1 state, sectional or national ranking by playing USTA sanctioned events. Our past junior players have gone on to play at the collegiate level on scholarships at schools such as the U.S. Naval & Air Force Academies as well as professionally and at the U.S. Open.


The Teddy Tennis Academy is a worldwide program that provides specialized tennis lessons for children ages 3 - 5. This interactive program works by combining music, pictures and teddy bear characters into a learning adventure that children love!

12 and Under Tennis

12 and Under Tennis is the USTA recommended format for teaching Junior Tennis. Designed to bring kids into the game by utilizing specialized equipment, shorter court dimensions and modified scoring, all tailored to age and size.

Red Group (ages 5 - 6)

In this fun-filled beginners program, children will develop hand-eye coordination, footwork, balance and proper techniques using rackets and playing games with the Ten and Under Tennis program's patented foam balls for easy hitting and learning!
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio.
Mon., Wed., Fri. 4pm-5pm [Friday session suspended during the summer]

Orange Group (ages 7 - 8)

This beginners class will focus on developing their 'rally' skills, proper technique, hand-eye coordination and all other skills needed to form a solid foundation for tennis. All basic strokes will be taught in drills and game situations.
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio.
Mon., Wed., Fri. 4:30pm-6pm [Friday session suspended during the summer]
Sat. 9am-10:30am and 10:30-12pm

Yellow I Group (ages 9 - 12)

Even though this is a beginners class, students will be taught all the basic techniques of the forehand, backhand, volley and serve - with an introduction to a match's rules and scoring, to get them playing their first real points and ultimately matches. Tactics and strategy will also be introduced in the same fun environment of drills, games, and exercises.
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio.

Sat. 9am-11am & 11am - 1pm

Yellow II Group (ages 9 - 12)

Out program will develop a player's techniques and overall game using match play and point play situations. Students must be promoted by a current instructor or evaluated for this class.

Advanced Tennis

Gold Group (ages 9 - 12)

Our program develop the player's stroke techniques and overall game using movement exercises, hitting drills, games, and point play situations.
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio. Player must be placed by staff.

Futures (ages 9 - 12)

This is the class for the advanced child under the age of 13, who has developed all the basic strokes and not only has begun to play matches, but is looking to play tournaments. Higher level techniques like alternate stances and footwork are introduced, along with advanced strategies, fitness and shot-making using hitting drills, games, and practice points.
This is a 4:1 student to pro ratio. Player must be placed by staff.
Tues., Thurs. 4pm-6pm

Teen Tennis 101 (ages 13 - 17)

Designed for the teenager just starting to pick up a racket for the first time. The Teen Tennis 101 program teaches the proper grips, techniques and form of the basic strokes in a fun yet competitive environment. We use plenty of instruction, games and activities to focus on all the fundamentals to get your teen hitting tennis balls for the first time.
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio.

The Contenders (ages 13 - 17)

This program builds on the skills learned in the Teen Tennis 101 class, or can be for the player already with experience on the court. It is designed to improve the player's game in the areas of groundstrokes, volleys, serving, strategies for both singles & doubles, and footwork. Hitting drills, games, and exercises are utilized to get the teen player not just able to hit, but able to play their first matches.
This is a 6:1 student to pro ratio.

High School Aces (ages 13 - 17)

The Atlantic Club's popular, comprehensive program for the more experienced teen player, this class focuses on instruction, hitting drills, and games designed to improve the game of your Junior Varsity high school player, or those typically looking to break into their Varsity team's starting lineup.

Challengers (age 13 - 17)

The advanced program for the upper level high school player, the Challengers class is designed to improve the game of the player who has mastered all the proper techniques and basic strokes of the sport, and is ready for a higher level of learning and compeition. This player is typically a Varsity singles player and/or playing in local tournaments or round robins.
This is a 4:1 student to pro ratio. Player must be placed by staff.

Invitational (ages 13 - 17)

Masters is the highest level junior program for the standout player competing in - and likely earning rankings in - their district or USTA section. High intensity training and coaching are provided by the club's top teaching professionals.
